So Obama is fulfilling a campaign promise to pull us out of Iraq. It is no surprise that all the Lefties are cheering and the Righties are jeering. The Lefties claim we never should have been in the war so its great we are finally out. Well, the first part is arguable, but I respect that position. It's the second part that is troubling.
People on the Right, claim that us leaving will all the country to destabilize, and embolden Iraq. The beauty about this, is that it is testable. We are going to withdraw. We will see what happens. Of course, the Lefties will blame the resulting chaos on Bush anyways.
A little history lesson is in order here. Consider Vietnam. We left Vietnam, South Vietnam fell, and millions were massacred. Now consider Korea. We stayed in Korea. We still have 30,000 troops there. Last I checked. North Korea is pretty prosperous. Check out all the places we have troops stationed around the world. These are almost all places enjoying peace and prosperity. Places like Germany and Japan. US troops have that effect: countries don't go messing around with countries that have active US military bases.
Another forgotten fact. Everyone says we lost the Vietnam war. We didn't lose it. We negotiated a peace, just like we did in Korea. The only difference was that with Vietnam, we left the country instead of leaving troops stationed there to guarantee the peace. The North Vietnamese reneged on the peace accords, and invaded the South. The only troops we had there were the ones working the US Embassy.
Here is my prediction. After we leave Iraq, Iraq will increasingly destabilize, and Iran will help. History will record we lost the Iraq War. Lefties will of course blame Bush.
I especially love the derision people heap on Bachman and others for their stance on this. No, we were no in Iraq for land, or oil, or treasure. All we wanted was a peaceful and prosperous Iraq, and a lasting US troop presence to insure the stability of Iraq and to be a check on Iran.
Well, at least we will have a nice new case study.
