It seems the people in the Tea Party making the most noise about holding the line and doing no deal where probably in the minority, even in the Tea Party. Most people of the Tea Party persuasion actually understood the political realities and went along with the deal, which was probably the best we could do under the circumstances.
At least S&P wasn't fooled. They promptly downgraded the US credit. They announced the downgrade was because we weren't serious enough about cutting the deficit. Strangely, Democrats are now claiming the downgrade was the fault of the Tea Party, the group that wanted to cut the deficit the most. It will be interesting to see the contortions the media will have to go through to try and keep that spin going.
