Until today, I counted myself amongst the Tea Party. I count them now as being political morons. To be certain, they are right on the issues. Government needs to spend less and gets its fiscal house in order. But now they are actively opposing Boehner's plan, and even calling to have him replaced because they are unhappy with his latest plan as not strong enough.
Not strong enough? The Senate has already said they won't pass it, and Obama has already said he would veto it. Can't the idiots drumming up the emotions of the Tea Party understand that the entire country will blame the Tea Party specifically and the Republican's in general for all the pain caused when no deal is done? Do they really think Obama is going to get the blame? Do they think the Senate Democrats and Obama will cave at the last minute and agree to whatever the Tea Party demands?
Heck, this is just what Obama wants! He would love to have no deal come August 2nd so he can blame Republicans for the continuing bad economy and everything else that goes wrong until the next election.
We are not going to solve the deficit in well fell swoop right here and now. Like it or not, both the Democrats in the Senate and Obama have veto power. We just have to accept the best we can do at the moment, and keep our eyes on the long term. Get a deal done now. Extract more in the upcoming budget fights, extract more in the next budget fights. Now we have a track record of fiscal sanity. Kill the Dems in 2012, taking the Senate and the Presidency.
Once the Republicans control all of Congress and the Presidency, then the Tea Party can really start having its way. By all means then hold the Republican's feet to the fire and threaten to remove the Speaker if they aren't bold enough to do what is needed. But not now. Don't blame the Speaker for trying to get the best deal he can under the circumstances. The deal the Tea Party wants is DOA in the Senate and for the President. Why don't you direct your anger at them? That's where it belongs.

my anger is directed at all of the folks who won't compromise. the people who play politics as if it were a zero sum game. both sides can win. just cause he wins doesn't mean she loses. sheehs.
why is there such a huge penalty for crossing the aisle? and more importantly, what can we do about?
At this point I am leaning towards no raising the limit and all hell breaking loose.
Me, too. You deal with shopaholics by cutting up their Visa card. President Obama must have replayed in his head what got him elected---blame everything that's bad on the previous president. This time he IS the previous president, so why not create a crisis that has to go to stalemate so he can blame everything that's failed in his term on Republicans? The media will connect the dots for him
it's kinda funny really. the guy who won the election by promising change, yet who's only given us more of the same (war, borrowing, spending), is being forced kicking and screaming to make some changes.
Great point. I think you ought to be my running mate for a well rounded ticket. Could you handle 4 years in DC? (I wouldn't do 8, I have bigger plans)
sure thing! after the four years are almost up you can give me a blanket pardon and resign. then i'll give you a blanket pardon. flying van and timmer for presidents! ;->
